Paragliding School
Garmisch-Partenkirchen
The Garmisch-Partenkirchen Paragliding School was founded in 1990. Located amidst one of the best flying areas in the Alps, Garmisch-Partenkirchen provides the ideal place to learn the "fascination of flying" in its most authentic way.
The training mountains in Garmisch-Partenkirchen are the Hausberg, Kreuzeck, Osterfelder and Wank. We currently have no exercise slope for beginners courses. Our training programme is therefore limited to high-altitude flights.
The high-altitude flight course
After your first experiences gained in the basic course, you will participate at the high-altitude flight course - nothing can keep your feet on the ground. Prerequisite for the participation at this flight is a completed basic course, at least 15 flights with a difference in altitude of more than 300 metres, and your own equipment. The high-altitude flight course includes a minimum of 25 flights with a difference in altitude of more than 500 metres in two different areas.
The main focus of the course is on starting, landing, flying straight ahead, reducing altitude with a figure of eight and full circles, and arranging the landing.
During the course, there are theoretical lessons on the topics: behaviour in special cases, air traffic law, meteorology and technique. The course ends with a theoretical and practical exam. After completion you will hold the limited pilot's licence. The exam is taken by members of the DHV.
